Closed-loop testing consists of testing the water quality of heating, cooling, condensate and water-filled mechanical systems which heat and cool.

The testing can be completed as a field test which gives general indicators of the systems water quality or it can be lab tested which will also cover all elements of the field test and include detection and surveillance of harmful bacteria which can contribute to system corrosion and damage.

The reason for closed-loop testing is that heating & cooling systems are constructed with the use of many different types of materials. Today’s manufacturers are demanding specific water quality parameters for their equipment to ensure life expectancies and warranty periods. Consequently, boilers and chillers are being manufactured using aluminium and stainless steel, which can lead to multiple metal systems that if left untreated can start to cause issues within a short period of time.

BB Plumbing & Water Services offer closed-loop maintenance to British Standard BS8552:2012 which takes the form of guidance and recommendations for existing closed-loop systems. BSIRA guidance for pre-commissioning systems as per BG29.2012 for new systems and BG50.2013 for guidance on water treatment for closed heating and cooling systems.

Our closed-loop services are:

  • System flushing
  • Pre-commissioning flushing
  • Chemical cleaning
  • Water filtration
  • Side stream filtration
  • System maintenance
  • Field testing
  • Independent Lab testing
  • Chemical supply
  • Chemical dosing
  • System monitoring
  • Dosing equipment
  • System flushing pumps
  • pH Correction
  • Sampling
  • Swab testing

Heating & chilled water quality is an essential part of all closed-loop systems and the water testing is a low costs maintenance task, which can assist with system and equipment life expectancies and ensures optimum efficiencies of boilers, heat pumps and chillers.
